Maca root : sexual drive booster?

Maca root is well known in the market due to its ability to boost sexual drive and there are studies to back up this claim.

Double-blind studies were done on different occasions and was found out that the participants that were given different dosages of maca root were reported to have heightened sexual desires. All of the studies were placebo-controlled, randomized and relied on self reporting. And only one report was given: maca increased libido. However, the increased sexual desire that can be found when ingesting maca root is not due to increased in sex hormones. Maca root may have sex-enhancing properties but the sex hormone levels of both men and women taking this herb has no change.

Aside from increasing sexual desires, there are studies that showed maca root improved semen quality in men and helps ease menstrual symptoms in women.

Bottomline:

Maca is generally safe for people to consume as a food and an herbal supplement. It has promising effects in increasing your sexual desire and more extensive studies are  needed to prove its effectiveness.
