Benefits of Camu Camu? Here Are The 5 Facts

There is a fruit from Brazil that is beginning to be recognized as a superfood because it is packed with so many nutrients. This fruit is known as Camu Camu.

Camu Camu grows in the Amazon rainforest. It has the same color as the cherry and the same size as the lemon. It can not be eaten fresh though because of its very strong sour taste, thus, the fruit is commonly found in powdered form.

Have you ever known any benefits of the camu camu? The following are the 5 facts that you need to know:

1.  Flavonoid

Camu camu was found to have high levels of antioxidants. A subtype of this flavonoid that is commonly present in the fruit is anthocyanins. Anthocyanins play an important role in fighting toxins and stressors

   2.  Vitamin C

It is an essential water-soluble vitamin that can only be found in fruits and vegetables. The recommended daily intake is 70 mg in women and 90 mg in men

Camu camu on the other hand, contains approximately 3 grams of Vitamin C per 100 grams of fruit making it the highest source of Vitamin C.

Since Vitamin C increases the white blood cells in our body, it has the ability to protect our body from infection. Hence, Camu Camu, just like elderberry, is effective for colds and flu.

Vitamin C also strengthens the skin barrier, making the wounds heal faster.

3. Valine

It is an essential amino acid that prevents muscle breakdown which improves muscle tone. It is also important for brain function because it improves mood and prevents memory loss.

4. Ellagic Acid

Another antioxidant that can be found in powdered Camu Camu is ellagic acid. This antioxidant has an anti-inflammatory effect which is beneficial in our body’s respiratory health that may, in turn, contribute to relieving the symptoms of colds and flu. It also helps in preventing chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease.

5. Carotene

Aside from antioxidants, carotene can also be found in Camu Camu and it has a role in healthy eyes thereby slowing the signs of aging in vision.

So generally, Camu Camu has every right to be called a superfood because of great amounts of nutrients that are present aiding our bodies to function better.
